A blaze tore through a community centre in rural south Auckland on Sunday afternoon, melting stacks of plastic chairs and leaving the outside charred. Inside the building, stacks of chairs used by the community groups had melted and lampshades had fallen from the ceiling. There had been potential reports at the beginning of people inside the building, but no one was trapped, she said. Ardmore Hall is an Auckland Council facility that is used for activities including classes, meetings and social gatherings.
