Flames and smoke over the Bhashantek slum, February 28, 2019 Collected18 firefighting units were at the sceneA fire broke out at Dhaka’s Bhashantek Jahangir slum fire at 1:35am Thursday. Alam Hossain, a Fire Service official from Kurmitola Fire Station, told the Dhaka Tribune that two units from there had joined other units from nearby stations to control the fire. Control Room Duty Officer Atwar Rahman told the Bangla Tribune that 18 units were working to douse the fire. Locals said the intensity of the fire was growing. Journalist Sandipan Basu, who was at the scene, posted videos of the blaze on his Facebook page around 2am, and said the fire was advancing towards Kafrul Police Outpost.
