Police said the fire started at the factory belonging to the Ban Huay Haed Rubber Cooperative in Phupiang district’s Tambon Faikaew early in the night. Firefighters and fifteen fire engines took about two hours to control the fire and some officials were assigned to monitor the area throughout the night to prevent the blaze from reigniting. Cooperative officials said the fire started from overheated rubber sheets being dried in a furnace with the damage estimated at about Bt25 million. Officials said there was an explosive sound before the fire started.
