Helicopters are dealing with a fire which spread across Inland Rd between Waiau and Mt Lyford. Helicopters are being used to fight a fire that has closed part of the Inland Rd to Kaikōura. SUPPLIED NZTA is warning drivers to delay their journey while the Inland Rd is closed. The fire on the Inland Rd was about 600 metres north of the Mason River bridge, the Hurunui District Council said in an update posted to Facebook at 10.30am. Route 70, or the Inland Rd, is the only alternative to SH1 to access Kaikōura.
