KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department along with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and relevant agencies are gearing up for the monsoon season by upgrading its assets and freezing all leave for firefighters soon. Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Operations Division Fire Department superintendent Azrul Nizam Md Zali said the department was in the midst of conducting maintenance works for its assets such as boats, jet skis and lorries. “Our officers will be on standby at all times and as for now, we have a number of 695 boats ready to be deployed. Meanwhile Red Crescent Society secretary general Datuk Sayed A. Rahman Sayed Mohd said the organisation was ready to work hand-in-hand with the government to provide necessary assistance at relief centres. “We are working with other NGOs as well and 4,400 trained volunteers will be available during this monsoon season,” he said.
