TANJONG KARANG: The Fire and Rescue Department has issued 144 notices to tahfiz centres, pondok agama (Islamic schools), and orphanages nationwide for failing to comply with fire safety guidelines. “A total of 213 tahfiz centres, pondok agama and orphanages were inspected since Sept 23. Noh said the schools, centres and orphanages that have been issued notices would be given a six-month period to renovate the premises according to the stipulated guidelines. Meanwhile, during his visit to several tahfiz centres and orphanages in Tanjong Karang, seven of the eight premises checked adhered to the fire safety regulations. Present were Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim and Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Azmi Osman.
