According to the NGO, 1.36 lakh people died and 4.68 lakh were injured in all types of road accidents in 2011. Citing statistics from the Union transport and highways ministry, it said that in 2015 alone, there were 4,124 accidents caused by stationary trucks, injuring 12,800 people. Save Life Foundation had filed the plea in 2013 seeking guidelines to check the menace of vehicles carrying iron rods and other protruding objects, besides stationary vehicles.
