Fine Gael senator Seán Kyne has been selected by the party to contest the upcoming by-election in Galway West. Mr Kyne was one of three Fine Gael candidates who expressed interest in contesting the by-election to fill the seat vacated by President Catherine Connolly. “I am delighted to be selected by the party members in Galway West to contest the forthcoming by-election on behalf of Fine Gael,” Mr Kyne said. Tánaiste and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris congratulated Mr Kyne on his selection, calling him “a hard-working, community-driven candidate with a track record of public service”. The former president of Young Fine Gael, Eoghan Gallagher, also contested the election.
