Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Friday said the government has asked the Indian government to return back PK Halder's money. He added that attempts are being made to bring back the money smuggled abroad. In his budget speech for the fiscal year 2022-23 in Parliament on Thursday, Mustafa Kamal proposed to give the opportunity to display the money smuggled out of the country in the income tax return. “If a taxpayer owns an asset outside Bangladesh and that asset does not appear in the income tax return, he will have the opportunity to do so by paying a fixed tax in the next financial year,” he observed. The minister proposed to levy tax at the rate of 15% on immovable property acquired abroad, 10% on immovable property abroad and on cash remitted to Bangladesh.
