Final floor caps Edmonton Tower in Ice District

The Ice District celebrated a milestone Wednesday with a ceremony marking the official "topping off" of Edmonton Tower, now in the final stage of construction. More than 65 per cent of the city's current downtown workforce, about 2,300 employees, will occupy 17 of the tower's 27 floors starting this November. "It's going to be a centre for commerce, and a centre for governance, a centre for crucial activity in our city," Mayor Don Iveson said at a ceremonial concrete pouring of the top floor. It will be the first highrise to be completed in the development around Rogers Place. At this point, 75 per cent of the building space has been leased, with Katz Group officials saying they're confident the remainder of the building will fill up by the time the tower is finished.
