Aamir Khan took away the Best Actor Award, the Mahavir Singh Phogat biopic was awarded the Best Film and director Nitesh Tiwari bagged the Best Director Award. Hot favourite Alia Bhatt won the Best Actress Award for her perfect portrayal of a gritty migrant woman exploited and trapped in a drug lord's house. The other top contender for the Best Actress Award, Sonam Kapoor, was not forgotten and she bagged the Critics Award for Best Actor (Female) for playing Ashok Chakra awardee Neerja Bhanot in the biopic Neerja. Shahid Kapoor shared the critics' choice award for Best Actor (Male) with Manoj Bajpayee. The best debut awards went to Diljit Dosanjh for Udta Punjab and Ritika Singh for Saala Khadoos.
