Their first win came after they took a 0-10 loss to Japan and a 0-15 setback to Korea. In another encounter, Japan pulled off its third straight win, posting a 4-0 blasting of Chinese Taipei. Support from a small community of Filipinos fired the boys up in their campaign, according to Loyzaga. “A small community of Filipinos, mostly parents, cheered the team on every run scored by the boys,” wrote Loyzaga.
