Fight for equality pays off as women win nominations

For many years, Kenyan women have been left out in politics. Key political offices are occupied by men and women have had to be content with appointments. As was witnessed during the 2013 elections, no woman was elected to the powerful position of governor because our patriarchal society does not favour them. And we are almost assured of having the first woman governor after former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru won the Jubilee ticket to vie for the governor’s position in Kirinyaga. Whether Laboso beats Ruto or not, her nomination was a major achievement for women whose fight to equality is finally paying off.
