Wolfgang Niersbach, a member of Fifa and Uefa’s executive committees, has been handed the ban after he “failed to report findings about possible misconduct concerning the awarding of the 2006 FIFA World Cup”, said the ethics committee in a statement. Fifa is still investigating allegations of bribery surrounding Germany’s bid for the 2006 tournament, of which Niersbach was vice-president of the local organising committee.
