Fewer accidents but 373 still killed from crashesDeaths caused by road accidents during the "seven dangerous days" of the New Year holidays dropped by almost 20% to 373, the lowest in five years. On Thursday, the last day of the period, 45 people were killed in road accidents, bringing the total over the seven days to 373, down 19.4%. On the same day, 359 people were injured in 354 road accidents, also down from the previous year. As many as 83% of the vehicles involved in crashes were motorcycles, said Deputy Interior Minister Niphon Bunyamanee yesterday, citing a report from the Road Safety Directing Centre. From Dec 27 to Jan 2, 3,421 road accidents occurred nationwide, injuring 3,499 people.
