Few fire ban infractions as Alberta wildfire conditions remain extreme: official

Wildfire information officer Matthew Anderson says authorities have had to deal with 45 infractions in the Calgary Forest Area, a strip of wilderness along the province’s southwestern boundary. “Conditions remain extreme in southwestern Alberta, but we’re here and we’re ready,” said Anderson. There is a small one in the Calgary Forest Area. Earlier this week, an evacuation alert was issued for Waterton Lakes National Park as a pre-emptive measure because of a fire burning by its boundary. The Verdant Creek fire straddling B.C.’s Kootenay National Park and Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park caused some closures in Alberta’s Banff National Park this summer.
