AT LEAST four people were confirmed dead while 240 others were rescued after a passenger ferry capsized off Real port in Infanta, Quezon amid stormy weather on Thursday. Eleven passengers were missing, with the Calabarzon disaster council reporting that the ferry carried a total of 251 passengers on a total capacity of 286 passengers. Search-and-rescue operations were being conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard in northern Quezon, the Infanta disaster office and private motor bancas. The coastguard confirmed that the ferry was carrying 251 passengers and crew when it left the port of Real for Polillo, a 2.5-hour trip. Balilo said the ferry left Real as Tropical Storm “Vinta” loomed over the southern Philippines, nearly a thousand kilometers away.
