Parliament passed a proposal to include Biranganas in the list of freedom fighters on January 29 in 2015. A freedom fighter gets honorarium, ration and medical services. In September last year, 41 Biranganas were recognised as freedom fighters for the first time. According to the ministry, around 200,000 women and girls were abused during the Liberation War. Ferdousi applied to National Freedom Fighters Council for the status around a month ago and the council in its 35th meeting approved her name to be enlisted as a freedom fighter, said Sufi Abdullahil Maruf, public relation officer of Liberation War Affairs Ministry.
