Ellis Island, which sits in New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan, is part of Statue of Liberty National Monument. Although the Statue of Liberty National Monument has been run by the National Park Service since 1933, Ellis Island was added to the monument only in 1965.
