Federated Farmers push for meeting in Southland after disease outbreakJOHN HAWKINS/STUFF Southland Federated Farmers president Allan Baird. Federated Farmers is pushing for a meeting with the Ministry for Primary Industries to ensure the outbreak of Mycoplasma bovis is contained in Southland. The Winton farms, which are owned by one company, have not been named although they are all under a Restricted Place notice under the Biosecurity Act. Southland Federated Farmers president Allan Baird said the meeting with the ministry was likely to happen next week in Winton. On-farm bio security was now a main concern for Federated Farmers, particularly making sure farmers increase the barriers on their farms and follow their standard on-farm hygiene best practice protocols.
