The subpoena sought correspondence, emails and other messages related to the development of the 737 Max to be handed over in later March. The second crash triggered a worldwide grounding of the 737 Max 8 aircraft. Earlier Sunday, the Journal also reported the inspector general's investigation, citing a government official briefed on its status. It's unclear whether the Justice Department's probe was related the inspector general's scrutiny of the FAA, according to the Journal. The company separately said it is working to finalize a software update for 737 Max jets to be released in the coming weeks.
