Federal Opposition Parties Demand David Johnston to Explain Decision on Foreign Interference

Frustrated by special rapporteur David Johnston’s recommendation to not hold a public inquiry into allegations of foreign interference, federal opposition parties are now trying to get Johnston to “answer for this decision” in front of a parliamentary committee. His decision was widely condemned by all opposition parties, which have been calling in unison for a public inquiry on foreign interference and increasing pressure to ensure that the government follows this route. The Conservatives, NDP, and the Bloc managed to pass a motion at PROC and in the House of Commons calling for such an inquiry. The issue of foreign interference in the election is significant and needs to be addressed with transparency. The opposition parties are demanding that the government follows the route of a public inquiry to get to the bottom of these allegations.
