There are fears a swimmer may have drowned in the Whanganui River. (File image)Emergency services are responding to reports of a swimmer failing to surface from Whanganui River, near Upokongaro. The swimmer was an adult male, a police spokesperson said. An adult male had been swimming in the river and had failed to surface, a police spokesperson said. Police Search & Rescue, along with Coastguard and a rescue helicopter are working to locate the person.
