The mysterious disappearance of eight cats from a small neighbourhood in a Coromandel town has prompted fears of a serial cat thief. Five of the cats that have gone missing in the last two weeks were from homes down the same small cul-de-sac in Whitianga. It was all breeds of cats, Morrison said, and some belonged to families, others to single owners. Although uncommon, it wasn't the first time Morrison had encountered people purposely targeting cats, possibly to inflict harm.
