In news sure to cheer the exhausted parents of toddlers everywhere, the Food and Drug Administration could approve a COVID-19 vaccine for kids under the age of 5 as soon as next month. White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday the FDA is awaiting data from a trial determining the adequate dosage for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Advertisement“My hope is that it’s going to be within the next month or so and not much later than that,” Fauci told Blue Star Families, a nonprofit group that helps military families. Early results suggest children age 6 to 24 months would receive a high degree of protection from a two-dose regimen, while children between the age of 2 and 5 years would receive three. While age seems to be a significant risk factor in the severity of the disease, children nevertheless remain at risk, Fauci said.
