Grain kept moving, in part because the CGC allowed exporters to use private inspectors instead. Proponents of the government inspection system believe it’s responsible for protecting the global reputation of Canadian grain exports. But Milton Dyck, the national president of PSAC’s agriculture union, said trusting the private sector to protect the brand of Canadian grain could backfire. “Where are future grain inspectors going to be drawn from?”Gosselin asked.
