Bishop Burton College in East Yorkshire has since apologised to farmers and students (Picture: Bernard Sharp/Geograph)A farming college that teaches the next generation of butchers has been criticised for promoting vegan diets on campus. Bishop Burton College in East Yorkshire, apologised for its ‘Meat Free Mondays’ and ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ advertised on its canteen menu to celebrate Veganuary. But students and farmers hit out and said the institution should be ‘banging the drum for the sector’. The request for free meat options came from the student council following similar campaigns adopted at the University of Cambridge and University of Warwick. We fully recognise and apologise for the impression this gave to our wider farming community, stakeholders, students past, present and future.
