Family escapes flooded Waiomio Valley in NorthlandBEVAN READ When emergency services could not get through, the residents of Waiomio Road evacuated to the local Marae until the flood waters receded. A Northland family had to evacuate to a nearby marae as flood waters effectively "isolated" the area. Te Waiora Marae kuia (elder) Kuina Scrivener said about 20 residents in Waiomio Valley, south of Kawakawa, were threatened by rising waters.
