Family That Controls U.K.’s Daily Mail Mulls Going Private

The Rothmere family, which currently owns 28 percent of the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT), values the 72 percent interest in the media company that it doesn’t control at 251 pence per share. The Daily Mail is the U.K’s top-selling newspaper, toppling Rupert Murdoch’s Sun in 2020 and “wields political clout as the voice of conservative middle England,” according to Reuters. Revenue in the Consumer Media business fell 13 percent in 2020 to £604m ($838 million). The worst health crisis in more than a century also hurt the company’s Events and Exhibitions and Landmark Information Group, its U.K. property information business. It unloaded Genscape, an energy information business, for $364 million in November 2019.
