Unable to get a case registered because of alleged police apathy to stop her father from abusing them, the 17-year-old lodged a false FIR of molestation against the man to make the case stronger. She later admitted in court that she had lodged a false complaint as she had learnt from the school workshop that molestation cases were taken seriously. The court noted that the girl had admitted to lodging a false case in 2015 as the police were not taking action despite repeated complaints. It also noted that she had learnt about the seriousness of the offence of molestation at a workshop in her school. "In fact, no such incident of molestation, as alleged by her in her complaint and her statement recorded, had taken place," Judge Baweja observed.
