Their latest album, MANIA, functions as the final installment in this post-hiatus trilogy, consummating the band’s shift from mangy emo rockers to stadium pop craftsmen. Stump and Wentz scrapped the first draft of MANIA in July and decided to rewrite the album, pushing its release from September to January. In other words, they sound like the makings of a Fall Out Boy album. But Fall Out Boy never chased emo credibility like their peers in Brand New, Taking Back Sunday or Say Anything. They never pretended to be anything but a bunch of good-time boys on a mission to get their music to the largest audience possible.
