Masks are set to become mandatory for secondary school pupils at the start of the new term as Boris Johnson prepares to make another policy U-turn. The prime minister is to announce the change despite the government previously insisting that schools were safe without face coverings. The Scottish government confirmed today that children over the age of 12 should habitually wear masks when moving around school, from next Monday.
