GUWAHATI: Mounds of stinking garbage have become a huge problem for Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), compelling it to ask residents to switch to in-house composting as a feasible waste disposal solution.New GMC mayor Mrigen Sarania said the civic authorities were considering all possible measures to ease garbage disposal and were working jointly with NGOs to popularize in-house or domestic composting. "In-house composting is the best possible way to solving the waste problem. Environ has developed a 'waste assimilator' for solid and liquid waste management in houses. At present, GMC has to shell out around Rs 80 lakh per month on cleanliness measures. In-house composting will bring down the overall cost to around Rs 60 lakh.Amarjyoti Kashyap, president of Environ, said many families had expressed their willingness to adopt the system.
