A video that was doctored to show U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as impaired was a clear “violation” of policy, says online media platform YouTube. “It’s difficult and tricky and there are a lot of nuances when you do something like this,” acknowledges Gingras. “The reality is Facebook is an information provider, but they don’t want to be responsible for the information they provide. I think that’s morally dishonest.”As the head of news for Google, Gingras believes the best antidote to fighting fake news is a plethora of high-quality news. Unlike Facebook, Gingras says there is no cap on how much will be spent in Canada from the $300-million (U.S.) pot.
