The meeting will be held in the backdrop of a continued ban on Facebook in the wake of communal clashes that took place in Kandy over a week ago. The government moved to block several social media sites and messaging platforms during the disturbances, stating that they were being used to spread hate speech and incitement to violence. However, messaging platforms Viber and WhatsApp are now working as normal after restrictions placed on them by the government were lifted in the past two days.
