SEOUL, Korea, Republic Of — South Korea’s telecoms regulator has fined Facebook for illegally limiting user access to its services from late 2016 to 2017. That slowed connections for some local Facebook users, and some complained they were unable to play videos on Facebook. The probe was launched in May last year after reports it had interfered with some local users’ access to Facebook and Instagram. Facebook has gained traction in South Korea in recent years and politicians and celebrities often use it to interact with fans. More than 12 million users visit Facebook per day in South Korea, according to the KCC.
