Facebook has become the latest company to announce a data leak after admitting an API bug left private user photos exposed. The blog explains: “When someone gives permission for an app to access their photos on Facebook, we usually only grant the app access to photos people share on their timeline. In this case, the bug potentially gave developers access to other photos, such as those shared on Marketplace or Facebook Stories.”Concerningly, the bug also impacted photos that people uploaded to Facebook but chose not to post. The social network will notify the people potentially impacted by the photo leak via an alert on Facebook. And think before you even start to upload data, including photos, to Facebook.
