Health Secretary Matt Hancock will confirm that the use of face coverings will become compulsory from 24 July in shops and supermarkets in England. "The Prime Minister has been clear that people should be wearing face coverings in shops and we will make this mandatory from July 24." But Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth said: “The Government has been slow and muddled again over face coverings. The move follows days of confusion from the government over whether the public should be wearing face coverings. Dr Venki Ramakrishnan, an expert advising the government, told ITV’s Good Morning Britain that the evidence was now “strongly in favour of using face coverings in enclosed spaces”.
