Getty ImagesThe U.S. Federal Trade Commission confirmed on Monday that it has launched an open, non-public investigation into Facebook ’s privacy practices. The FTC declined to comment on reports last week that it was investigating Facebook. The 2011 consent decree requires that Facebook notify users and receive permission before sharing data beyond their specific privacy settings. “The FTC is firmly and fully committed to using all of its tools to protect the privacy of consumers,” Pahl said on Monday. “Foremost among these tools is enforcement action against companies that fail to honor their privacy promises.”
