FG, gov lament low solar power utilisation


Adeniyi Olugbemi, SokotoTHE Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, said it was high time Nigeria explored its abundant solar energy to generate electricity. Bagudu stated this on Monday in Sokoto at the 38th National Solar Energy Forum organised by Solar Energy Society of Nigeria in collaboration with Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto, and Energy Commission. In his remark, President of Solar Energy Society of Nigeria, Prof. I. J. Dioha, said if Nigeria’s renewable energy was harnessed, it would revamp the economy and create 250,000 jobs for our teeming youths. Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of Usman Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto, described the varsity as a hub of solar energy because of its comparative advantage of sunlight.
