In a surprise turn of events, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb will resign, the Trump administration confirmed Tuesday. Gottlieb has been grabbing headlines lately for his effort to crackdown on retailers including Walgreens Boots Alliance for selling tobacco products to young people. And his two-year tenure since he was appointed as head of the FDA by President Trump has included efforts to push tougher regulation of e-cigarettes and the tobacco industry generally. A date for his departure from the FDA was unclear and Gottlieb couldn't be reached Tuesday afternoon for comment.
