FCA's U.S. Sales Chief Files Whistleblower Suit Over His Cooperation With An SEC Inquiry


© 2019 Bloomberg Finance LPThe chief of U.S. sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the automaker, alleging it has cut his 2018 compensation by 90% because he cooperated with a government inquiry into FCA’s past sales reporting practices. FCA said in 2016 that it revised its reporting system, under which dealers were reporting sales of vehicles that remained on their lots. Bigland claims the reporting system did not affect FCA shareholders and, under questioning by SEC officials, he declined to admit to wrongdoing. But in January of this year, Bigland provided an analysis of the sales reporting practices to the SEC. FCA announced last month it would also adopt a quarterly reporting system.
