Extreme cold weather alert issued, wind warning ended for Toronto


( Andrew Francis Wallace / Toronto Star )The alert was issued early Monday morning, shortly after Environment Canada ended its wind warning and blowing snow advisory. “I think this period of time, since late January, has been quite active in terms of weather,” Environment Canada metereologist Gerald Cheng said. School buses are cancelled for the York Region public and Catholic school boards as well as the Peel District and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District school boards. Transportation is also cancelled in Zone 1 for Durham District public and Catholic school boards, and in all zones for the Halton District public and Catholic school boards. Environment Canada had warned that winds of up to 110 km/h could hit Sunday, but the worst it got by Pearson airport was 86 km/h at 10 p.m.
