The Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani express train hit the tree about 10.30pm, shortly after the train left Lam Chi-Nong Teng Station in Surin. The train driver said he did not see a tree. Officials said heavy rain caused the tree to uproot. The front of the train was damaged and windows in the first and second sleeping coaches were broken. Officials used a train from Buri Ram province to transfer passengers to their destinations as the damaged train could not be used.
