There is no need to suspend lessons despite the nine local virus cases reported yesterday, top microbiologist Yuen Kwok-yung said on a radio program this morning. He emphasized that an “invisible transmission chain” had been in the city all along but the government had never increased testing. As a result, whenever local transmission cases arise, the government will have to tighten its measures again. Yuen praised the Education Bureau’s anti-epidemic guidelines and said the annual book fair can go ahead as planned, as long as appropriate anti-epidemic measures are in place. If a waiter or kitchen staffer comes in contact with the saliva, they can easily transmit the virus.
