"The SC has ordered all concerned chief secretaries of these states to take the matter seriously and send the verified documents to the NRC department," Abhijeet Sarma , president of Assam Public Works (APW), said. "Around 10,83,919 applications were sent to the ECI for verification. With no response received from them, the court ordered the secretary of the ECI to take immediate action," Sarma said. An APW team will soon visit the Union home and finance ministries to urge that the cost of the NRC updating process be monitored. "The SC has fixed December 15 as the next date for hearing.
