Excise rewards safer, green vehiclesThe Excise Department is granting lower excise tax rates to vehicle manufacturers that install driving safety systems. In an effort to reduce pollution, the department applies CO2-based excise tax rates. Vehicles with lower CO2 emissions are subject to lower excise tax rates than those with higher emissions. Vehicles that meet these conditions are eligible for lower excise tax rates. For instance, the excise rate for ICE-powered vehicles may rise from 25% to 30% in 2030.
