Ex-law minister Zahid Hamid quits electoral politics

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker and former law minister Zahid Hamid on Friday announced that he was quitting electoral politics, saying his son would now contest future elections in his place. I was elected as Member of the National Assembly (MNA) thrice, but I have now decided that my son will contest in future elections,” said Hamid during an NA session here. Hamid also said that his name had been cleared from having any part in the amendment to the Finality of Prophethood that caused a massive protest and sit in at the Faizabad interchange last year in November, resulting in Hamid tendering in his resignation as law minister. “Raja Zafarul Haq report into the incident was submitted in the Islamabad High Court. The IHC was satisfied with the report, whereas, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi clarified that I had no role in the entire episode,” he said.
