KUALA LUMPUR: A former policeman was charged in the Sessions Court here with abusing his stepdaughter and causing the death of the child two years ago. Muhammad Khairuanuar Baharuddin, 35, was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code. He was also accused of abusing the toddler who was under his care, resulting in the victim to suffer physical injury. He was charged under Section 31(1)(a) and 31(2)(a) of the Child Act 2001 with ill treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children. The former lance-corporal, who was wearing a "kopiah" or skullcap, white t-shirt and black pants, appeared calm after the charges were read to him.
