Former Egyptian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Sami Enan officially announced early Saturday that he will run in the upcoming presidential elections set to take place in March, contesting Egypt’s Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. A few hours earlier, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi officially announced his intention to run for a second term. Sisi declared his announcement during the final day of the “Story of a Nation,” conference where the Egyptian President has been presenting his government’s achievements throughout his rule over the past four years. Egypt’s National Elections Commission (NEC) started on Saturday receiving the documents that are necessary for presidential hopefuls to submit in order to be allowed to run for office in the upcoming elections. The campaigning period for the 2018 elections will kickstart on February 24 and end on March 23, state news Al-Ahram reported.
